Tinea Versicolor Question

I was told that i'm allergic to the sun, when i sweat I get rashes all over my body, i'm also allergic to metal and my dog. Well I was told to use selsun blue as a body wash, i've been doing that for over three years and frankly, it does not work. A friend of mine just recently gave me a tube of cream called 'Fougera' and I can say it actually works! However i'm not sure if this is actually a treatment for what I have, and wonder if there is anything else I can do. I get white spots from the sun (non-itch), and raised red spots and rashes that itch when I go outside. I get large rashes that itch if I wear metal neclaces, and i get wide spread red rashes from the dog. I wonder what I can do help this, since fugera only works for the spot rashes and nothing else.
(does drinking milk when I'm lactose intolerent cause any skin discrepanses? I have WIC and can't get soy)

Hello,

As an update, I meant to say use Lamasil and NOT Lotramin. Both are anti-fungal creams, but Lamasil is what I use. My boyfriend has a rash on his leg and I bought Lotramin for his rash. Sorry about the mix up.

Also, I would apply the shampoo out of the shower. Meaning, instead of making it sud, simply wash your hands and apply the shampoo to your skin-dry. This way, you can get the optimum treatment. I noticed more of a change this way than sitting in the bathtub for 10 minutes. I also began to use Aveeno (skin lightening bar soap) which also helps with the appearance as well as an apricot scrub when I'm getting ready to wash my body.

Let us know how you are doing.

I too suffer from Tinea Versicolor as well as Angioedema. I was prescribed Ketaconazole 2% cream for 6 weeks and I used Selsun blue for 10 minutes every other day. It didn't work. I did some research and I ended up using Lotramin twice a day and head and shoulders that contains 2 % pyrithione Zinc. This has by far killed the fungus and has decreased the rash on my body. I have been using it for a few weeks now and have noticed a huge difference. I have had TV for a few years now and it wasn't until recently that it had spread to my neck. I would also recommend (to get rid of the discoloration-if you have any) to use an apricot scrub that contains Salicylic acid. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE THE SHAMPOO (HEAD & SHOULDERS OR SELSUN BLUE) overnight because it'll make your spots worse and it will hurt...trust me. :)

The only difference between me and you is that i'm brown-skinned and my spots get darker.
