Treatment for Folliculitis

Dear Sir,

I am a 25 year old male from Pakistan. I have had folliculitis since 2-3 years now. But initially it wz on my upper thighs...but recently it has spread to my lower legs, upper arms and now forearms....i went to a dermatologist and he prescribed me first fucidin and then genticyn....he also gave me some tablets and an anti fungal/bacterial soap called Sastid...im required to scrub myself with the soap durin baths...and apply the cream thrice a day....However its been 2 weeks and instead of any improvement im noticing actually an increase in the problem...this is very worrisome for me as before this i was on a workout regime but now the doc says i cant workout because i sweat excessively and that could aggravate the problem..i am very very worried and this has ruined my self confidence as being a guy i cant wear tee shirts....and what worries me the most is what if this spreads to my face.....

Isnt there any fast, effective cure of folliculitis? I read about "Tetrasil" and was thinking of ordering it but read mixed reviews of it.....can you guide me about its efficacy? Can it get rid of my folliculitis? If not, what if i leave all treatment and ignore the folliculitis? is there a chance that it will go away by itself and wont come back? If not then whats the permanent solution....

please help im getting very desperate here as i have to get married real soon and i cant with this problem...

Dear Dr. Vanessa,

So i shouldnt consider getting Tetrasil?

And also if i were not to have any underlying condition and it were just folliculitis ...normally how much time would take to cure it using these medications? I mean its been 2 weeks..should i be more patient and wait for atleast 2-3 weeks before expecting any changes?

Also if there were any other underlying fungal infection what could it be? I have always had a very sensitive skin......im very allergic to a lot of things including grass, anything dirty, too much time in the water etc etc.....but i dont think those allergies can be treated....so should i consult an infectious disease specialist or should i just continue the treatment prescribed. by my dermatologist...

And oh the last thing he prescribed was a german soap called Mykos Haut...?

Hi.

This skin condition has been present for years now and I think your physician has given the right medications for this. If the skin condition is not improving then there are factors regarding prevention of spread that you have to consider. Folliculitis may be contagious. That is refrain from unnecessarily touching the affected areas. Also, keep the areas covered .Avoid sharing towels, clothes and other personal belongings. Wash your laundry immediately. You may try to modify your work out exercises. After sweating it out, make sure to wash and change into clean and dry clothes.

You may have this reassessed by an infectious disease specialist. An overlying fungal infection or dermatitic skin condition may be present here which delays the healing process.
