Unidentified skin problem-'pits' of 'holes' forming on bottom of foot

Please Help Me!
"Pits" or "holes" are forming on a callus on the ball of my foot. I've never had this before. There is no pain, but there is an occasional burning sensation. I recall feeling a burning sensation before any visible symptoms occured. There is no itching, swelling, reddness, or odor. I thought it could be related to a pedicure I had 5 months ago that involved filing down the callus? What could this be? The "holes" are growing larger and so far are limited to the callus area. Could it be ringworm eating holes in my skin? Please help me identify this as I have no health insurance and a doctor visit is very expensive. Thank you so much!

Thank you. Good info.
My 13 year old just showed me his feet, and I am sure this is his issue.  He recently became enamored with some fancy socks, and it suspect he's wearing them more than once between launderings.  Soaking his feet now in Epsom salts and will try the tea tree oil. It worked wonders on a funky toenail I had.
I'll report back....

There is a pomade type cream my mom used on me when I was little. I had the fish eye looking hole on the outer callus of my big toe. It wasnt painful at first. Just itchy and burning. Then after a while it started hurting. The pomade called Pomada Del Gallo was applied daily. Then it peeled off compleatle whole and painless. I had new skin underneath. They sell it at most mexican markets and pharmacies.

I've had this exact thing two summers in a row now, and I think I've pinned down both the cause and the fix: First, I'm fairly certain that I must have an allergy to the rubber in the cheap flip-flops I buy every summer. Apparently it's worth it now to spend a little money on nice ones like Havaianas that last longer! Second: the fix is Tea Tree Oil! I do two things: after a bath or shower I put a few drops of full-strength oil on a cotton ball and smooth it all over the bottom of my feet. I also fill a small spray bottle with water and about a teaspoon of the oil, shake it well first, and spray it on a couple of times a day. The holes stop growing/spreading and after a few weeks they will be gone. I also use a pumice when I bathe. My feet look great now! Hope this helps---B

you have pitted keratoylsis. You need to see a contact dermatitis who specializates in this disease. You need to see a doctor so he can do an patch test on your skin. You are allergy to leather in the shoe, rubber in the shoe, or etc. You need to know the cause of the problem which is key to your problem. Your doctor will give you a prescription for erythromycin pledgets pad for 6wk to 8 wks or erthromycin 333mg 3 times a day for 10 days or clindamycin topical solution for 4 wks to 8 wks. Good luck you ll be fine in a month or two month. Do some research on this disease. Not a doctor but I know what you are going through

I believe i had this as a teenager. It got cut, and i believe I put antibacterial cream on it. It went away fairly quickly after that.  It is back now, 8 or so years later, so i think it's best to try the antibacterial cream again with a band-aid over it.  Just the plain kind like in a first aid kit.  God willing I'll post the results soon. This Bacteria... is this something you need to see a doctor for or is there over the counter stuff you can use?

It's called pitted keratolysis.  Bacteria on the feet that responds well to topical antibiotics.  Wash feet a lot and keep dry.  May respond to washing feet with hydrogen peroxide.  Usually causes bad foot odor.

I also have little holes about the size of a tear drop in the middle of the ball of my feet.  It is on both feet in the same exact spot.  I don't have any other symptoms either.  Sometimes it does hurt and I can peel the skin off that is building up at the hole.  I have had these for about 6 months.  It does not seem to be spreading, but I would like to know what it is without a dr's visit as I do not have health insurance either.
