Unknown scalp lesions

I have had, for over a year now, an area on the top of my scalp which has lumps and bumps that are tender and feel somewhat scaly.  If I try to scratch off the bumps with crusted tops,  (I'm a "picker"), which are reddened, they bleed and crust or scab over again and again.  For a period of time, an area about the size of a nickel was hairless because I had picked and dug at the area for so long.  Eventually, the hair grew back and that particular area was flat and smooth.  But I still had the bumps and sores in the surrounding general area.  Initially, I saw my family doctor who cultured one of the raw areas and I was later told the infection was MRSA.  This was treated with 3 different antibiotics, none of which cleared the condition.  I was referred by my rheumatologist (I have rheumatoid arthritis) to a dermatologist who injected the area with a steroid and gave me some medcation to wash the area with daily (pink, I think Phisohex?).  She recultured the area and I was told there was no infection but, again, the injection did nothing and I didn't even bother following up because at this point I was convinced no one was going to be able to help me and I was only wasting my time and money!   I've done a lot of reading and researching online and I'm still at a loss.  Ideas, anyone??  Thanks.

I have come across this just now in 2015.  Are you still experiencing these symptoms? Have you any further information about them?  I have had the same thing that has gotten worse over the years but lately they seem to linger longer and I have more.

I too have been experiencing bumps on the "crown" area of my scalp-it first began however with just an extremely sore little area on my scalp and then the area grew to about the size of a baseball and the bumps came...they will appear and go away with in a week and re appear later

usually anytime the doctors could take me i only had soreness and the bumps were gone, but one dermatologist saw the bump and said it was acne necrtoica milaris-however after various antibiotics and no relief (the bumps dried up) but the soreness never went away, he said it was not what he thought it was and could be something neurological....the only thing is I still get bumps it is a very frustrating thing-anytime i ever get them the doctors cant take me to biopsie them, it just seems like a never ending process

this all started a year ago-and now my roomate feels the soreness in her crown area also (we tried to conclude what it could be becasue all doctors keep telling me is that it is not contagious) then why would she feel the same thing-we concluded we both got gardasil shots on the same time frame, and our symptoms were identical to the time we got the shots-we also went camping which it would be a very ironic circumstance but sometimes lyme disease can cause sore rashes on the scalp

I hope this helped you a little, and that you are able to find a doctor that will listen to you and believe you-best of luck Get better soon
