Irritated hair folicales or herpies?

Thank you doctor for your time.  I have been divorced now for about 7 months.  The last time I had sex was about 4 months ago.  When I met my ex I was a virgin, this other woman is the only other woman I have had sex with and it was just once and she had no visible herpies-like areas.  My ex tells me she is negative for herpies as she has been tested recently.  I dont have contact with the other woman now. I have had no signs of std's.  Recently, within the last week, I began running to get in better shape.  I had not had hard exercise since the fall.  I started to break out on my back, arms, chest, and buttock area from all the sweat.  I have had this since high school.  A week ago today I noticed a slightly pink bump about 1 in above my genitals in my pubic region.  As the days pasted, it turned slightly more red and eventually it developed a slight white head.  The whole bump is very small, I would say 1/8th of an in. at most.  I had two other red areas, similar in size, one about an inch left of the main one and one three inches straight up from the original.  These areas did not develop a raised bump or a head.  The main one looked very similar to other spots of body acne that I had in other parts.  Today, I noticed the areas started to go away and the main one has started to dry out like regular acne.  I went to my doctor today and he said "This in not herpies, it is an irritated hair folicale."  I was scared because I dont remember getting a blimish in this area before.  Is it possible? I asked the doctor if I was to have gotten herpies I should have showed signs months ago and he stated, "yes, you should have."  He told me to just to put neosporum on the area if I wanted.  The only thing I am worried about is can he be certain if I was not tested for herpies?  Theses areas are mild and have started to heal.  I have no other bumps on my penis or other genital areas.  What do you think, Doctor.  Should I put my thoughts and fears aside after his diagnosis?

Yes, I think you should.  Herpes would bring blisters, not pimples, they would be grouped together.  There are many reasons to rule out herpes on clinical grounds.  Most important, you saw a doctor who diagnosed them.  I believe you should indeed put your fears aside and move on.

Best of luck.

I occasionally get ingrown hair follicles at the waist line caused by irritation from Jockey underwear approximately 1-2 inches above the genitals.
