What was the gunk inside a very old healed boil and could it be harmful

A boil on my belly that seemed to have healed satisfactorily fifteen years ago left behind a bump beneath the skin, about .50" in diameter, protruding less than 1/8."

A few weeks ago I decided I was tired of the bump and squeezed it, expecting nothing to happen, guessing it was scar tissue or some such.  To my surprise a small stream of thick opaque ivory-colored substance came out – which was odd because there wasn't a head/lesion/pimple on the bump.

Being seriously near sighted I brought my finger to eye level for closer inspection of the gunk – in the process discovering it had an unpleasant odor.

I can still feel a very slight bump beneath the skin that I might not even notice if I didn't know it was the site of a boil.  No pain, boil fades into the sunset, right?  Wrong.

Question is, what was the substance that came out of that 15-year-old boil and could squeezing it have released some type of bacteria into my blood stream?  Reason I'm asking is that about a week later I suddenly started having unexplained pain in one hip, then also in one shoulder, now in the other.  Ignored the pain for 2-3 weeks but it's not going away despite stretching and ibuprofen.  Should I be visiting a doctor and, if so, what kind? Should I tell him about the boil or will doing so cause him to think I need a psychiatrist?

Pus.  Those were dead white blood cells from fighting an infection.  See your regular personal care physician immediately.  Explain and show her all of your issues.
