White burning/itchy welt like blotches?

About 3 months ago my boyfriend developed a blotchy white welt like rash on his thumb that burned and itched and as soon as he put cold water on it, the welt like rash appeared. Again last night it happened but this time it was all over his hand. The rash disappears and is asymptomatic after 30 minutes to an hour... I have never heard of anything like this. Has anyone had this problem or know what is causing it. I do know that they are not spider/insect bites for there is nothing on his hand before it starts to do this.. It usually occurs when we are laying in bed to go to sleep and always on his right hand. PLEASE HELP!!!

I don't know if this makes a difference but the hand that this keeps happening on is the hand that he broke in 5 different places in a motorcycle accident.

It only happens when we are laying in bed. The last time this happened was in May. He's not exposed to any chemicals at home or at work for he works in an office. The raised areas are white like huge mosquito bites..

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

This may be a case of contact or allergic dermatitis. We need to ascertain what could be the possible triggers for this. In the presence of exposure to metals, lotions, creams, latex and other chemicals or substances, then we may be dealing with a contact or irritant dermatitis here.

Wash with warm water and use mild cleanser when washing the area. Try to avoid any possible triggers that may be contributory to the problem. Your boyfriend needs to observe surrounding circumstances or activities that may be contributory to this skin condition. At this point, I would only suggest observation as the rash resolves spontaneously. If the rash recurs again and persists then, an eczematous skin condition may need to be ascertained.
