Yeast rash?

I have been having irritation in the vulva area for 6 days now.  It started with me noticing a slight itching and little white bumps.  These bumps went away within a day and were completely painless.  However, the itching remained (I was on my period so I couldn't tell if there was discharge).  I used anti-yeast infection cream on the skin as i thought it might be thrush related.  The doctor said it doesn't look like classical herpes but there was no yest present internally either.  Today, now that my period is over, I noticed a clumpy discharge.  Also, this morning I rigorously scratched the area, perhaps opening the skin so now it hurts to pee.  What is going on???

Hi,

It is good to hear that Difflucan helped. This could indeed be due to the yeast infection.  This condition responds well to medications and symptoms usually resolve. However,  it is always good to wait for the result of the culture and totally rule out HSV in the picture.  Do keep us posted with the HSV culture.

Take care and regards.

the diflucan has helped immensely and cleared it up completely.  the HSV culture hasn't come backk yet though.  Since diflucan worked, can I rule out herpes?

I went to the GYN and got a wet mount and it came back positive for yeast this time so I took the one time Diflucan pill.

Hi,

Genital herpes may present with itching or pain, followed by sores that appear a few hours to a few days later. The sores, which may appear on the vagina, penis, scrotum, buttocks, or anus, start out as red bumps that soon turn into red, watery blisters.  The sores may open up, ooze fluid or bleed, and then heal within the next 2 to 4 weeks. Flu-like symptoms including fever, headache, and swollen lymph nodes may also be observed. Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can stay hidden away in the body until the next herpes outbreak, when the virus reactivates itself and the painful sores return.

Signs and symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection include itching and burning of the external genitals, especially on urination; a white or yellow discharge; external genitals may look red and/or swollen and yeasty odor.

Your symptoms do not correlate with the usual presentation of genital herpes. It is best that you have this evaluated further by your gynecologist for proper diagnosis and management. A complete medical history and physical/pelvic examination is needed to reach a diagnosis. A sample of vaginal discharge may be evaluated under the microscope. This is called a wet prep ands needed  is needed to rule out bacterial and trichimonal infections.

Take care and keep us posted.

Hello,

First of all stop worrying as it does not sound like herpes.Herpes always presents with blisters which scab after some days.

The various possibilities are vaginal itching due to allergic or irritant contact dermatitis, vagintis or inflammation of the vagina, candida infections, pinworms, trichomoniasis and generalized anxiety disorder.

I feel that candidiasis holds a strong possibility due to the description of the discharge. In my opinion getting a swab sample of the discharge and getting it microscopically examined will help in confirming the diagnosis.Pls consult a gynecologist for that.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
