acne after accutane

Why do you wait a year to prescribe topical treatment after Accutane?  What skin care regime do you recommend?  Do you prescribe antibiotics if the Accutane doesn't perform well?  It has been difficult to get rationale for Accutane treatment.  Thank you for your advice...

You may be prescribed another course of Accutane, or a different oral or topical treatment, sooner than a year after Accutane failure/relapse. You must wait at least 8 weeks between courses of Accutane.
Accutane results in failure or relapse when:
i)The patient has not taken Accutane at a high enough dose, or not taken it for long enough. The recommended dose is 0.5 to 1mg X kg patients bodyweight per day for 16 to 24 weeks.
ii)The patient is female and has an underlying hormonal imbalance which is causing the acne such as PCOS. Females are more likely to relapse than males.
iii)The patient is using an oral or topical drug which induces acne such as the progestogen-only pill or steroids.
Eloise.

hey I have heard that antibiotics are not that good in treating acne, because the bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics over time! They sorta get used to the medication and come back stronger or mutated. Sometimes you might even have to change the type of antibiotic. I have never used antibiotics of any kind but i would only take it if absolutely necessary!
Have you tried oil of oregano, or tea tree oil for your acne?
I have but it didn't quite work for me, because my problem was not my skin flora (bacteria) but overactive sebacious glands. Since i train so much and sweat, i speed up my metabolism, and also everything is on overdrive! My hormones, my glands, everything works double!
Now i can eat all kinds and not gain a pound ever since i started long cardio session (like 2 hours-3 hours), every second day.

OH i forgot to mention!!!! Maybe you should check out this product, that i MIGHT try it myself!!!!!!!!!! Well, when i will finish with accutane.
It is called Brunnhause acne gel!!!
Check it out you might like it!

I am on accutane myself (2 months) so far so good, i have 4 more months to go.
It's nice and no side effects.

I am suppose to take blood test tomorrow. So far they are excellent.
Hope you will find a solution!

Why do you wait a year to prescribe topical treatment after Accutane?

Because it usually works, even though it didn't work before Accutane.

What skin care regime do you recommend?

I don't recommend any skin care regime.  Skin care regimes don't treat acne.

Do you prescribe antibiotics if the Accutane doesn't perform well?

Accutane essentially always performs well.  If the acne recurs later and the topical treatment doesn't work, I consider using oral antibiotics.

It has been difficult to get rationale for Accutane treatment.

I don't know what you mean by rationale.  The rationale of using Accutane is to get the acne better.  It sounds as though you've already done that.  Now you need to wait a while to see how much better things will get.

Since you have a dermatologist you've seen in person, you really ought to direct these questions to her.

Thank you.
