anus itching..dermatologist or proctologist?

Hello All,

About a month ago I started getting these irritations in my anus. I know you're not supposed to scratch it but I cannot help it. A few years ago I have developed a hemorrhoid and my doc prescribed me a cream which turns out to be the same cream/gel i used for my eczema. This gel is called clobetasol. It did the job and went away. So when this itching came back a month ago i started usingbthe gel again and it went away and came back a few days later. I continued using it until a week ago I noticed that it did not go away. I went into a walk in clinic and tge doc told me to stop using it because it was thinning out my skin and that i did not have a hemorrhoid. She then prescribed me a cream called pramosone. I used it for about  2 weeks now and no results. The itching is now spread to the butt crack and has caused me to get a yeast infection. I received meds for my yeast infection but my anus and the itching is still not healed. I was wondering if going to see a proctologist or a dermatologist is the best choice? I do not have health care so i dont want to waste money on going from doctors to doctors. Please help! I am at my most miserable stage right now!!

You could always try it on a small area to see how it works.

Don't use any perfumed products.

Hopefully the doctor will give you the correct medication to relieve the problem.

Best wishes.

Pramosone is a Hydrocortisone cream.

As you have been treated for a fungus infection and the problem has not gone away and you are still itching, it is possible that you may have threadworms.  You can get treatment for this from your pharmacist.

The other possibility, as you already mentioned that you suffer from eczema, is that this is eczema too.

Do not use any soaps or shower gels or feminine sprays as they will dry your skin and make it more itchy.

As you have been using the cream for 2 weeks now and it is not working, go back to your doctor for a different medication.  Ask your doctor to prescribe you with a antimicrobial bath emollient (Dermol 600 is one) and also a moisturising cream that can also be used to wash (Dibrobase, Doublebase, Dermol).  You may be able to buy these at the pharmacist without a prescription, depends which country you live in.

You could also apply Sudocrem or Vaseline.  Sudocrem will help the skin to heal.  Vaseline will moisturise.

Only wear cotton underwear and use non-biological washing detergents.
If you have diabetes, make sure that your sugar levels are well controlled as this can cause problems on the skin.

Best wishes.
