calcification in scar tissue?

hi again -has anyone any info on calcification in scar tissue?  i was opend up from sternum to pelvis so they could stop bleeding, remove ruptured spleen etc.  then it was reopened by orthopedics to take out the packing and fix all the other bits and bones that were smashed in accident.. i now have a boney formation directly under the scar that an ultrasound wont penitrate but shows up clearly on x-ray (it looks like a seahorse) it's about 5.5 cm long and 3cm round and is at the base of my sternum but not attatched to anything. it is starting to protrude from my chest and is getting a bit painfull, the dr isnt that concurned about it and thinks removing it will cause more complications than its worth...
all thoughts appreciated

I have a similar situation with a burn scar. I am 40 years old and my burns occurred when I was 2 years old. One scar is very thick and tight. I got a boil on it suddenly, which I thought was weird that a boil would choose such a tough spot to show up. The boil wouldn't heal, so my doctor called it an abcess and made a small cut and then noticed a sliver of bone like point poking up which must have initiated the infection/boil. He pulled out a couple of little pieces of calcification and tested the scar for cancer. Since no cancer was found, he said we should watch it and hope to avoid surgery. It has been more that six months and every couple of weeks I pull out a little calcified sliver. I don't know if they are continuing to be created, or if they were in there for a long time and now they are working their way to the exit as the wound hasn't completely healed...no doubt in part because I reguarly peel off the scab to see if any white dot - a part of a calcification piece- is visible. When I see that, I pull out the tweezers and become my own surgeon. Wow, I am realizing how gross this sounds, but it is very interesting for me, since it is on my body. I could go on about  range of sizes of the pieces found, etc. Let me know if anyone's interested.
I am interested in knowing if anyone has had this situation and if the calcifications have stopped on their own or if I will need to have that scar band removed.

I have exactly the same thing! I'm interested to know your outcome, if any.
I just pulled a sliver of bone out of an old scar this morning. I received the scar when I was 18 yrs old, roughly 30 years ago. The scar is about 1 inch long and I got it from a car accident when glass from a windshield sliced a 1 inch cut in my finger. recently a small boil started to form at the end of the scar. I popped it then it healed. Fast forward 6 months to today when I pop the new forming boil and end up pulling a bone sliver out of the scar. Its weird how this stuff forms.
I have had a similar experience. I have a 3rd degree burn scar that developed an abscess and I got a piece bonelike material out of it. I can still feel more of the calcification through the hole in my leg. I was wondering if anyone here has found a way to get the pieces out without surgery.
