cold sore

hello doctor.  i kissed my girlfriend last week multiple times when she had a cold sore.  now i have felt bad for 3 days, lots of sweating, raw throat, one canker sore, swollen lymph glands.

so i am assuming i have contracted the HSV-1 virus.  do i need to do anything, such as see a doctor?  will i definitely have an outbreak on my lip?  when?  is there a chance this is just the flu even though i kissed her when she had one?

my stomach has bothered me too, just knotted up.

thank you for your opinion on the matter.   yes i have had lots of aches and pains, flu-like symptoms, so hopefully it is just the flu.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

Exposure to cold sores may not necessarily indicate that you will be manifesting the sore. Exposure to someone with the cold sores increased the likelihood of infection though. At this point, this may be the common colds also. Flu may present with joint pains, headaches and fever. I suggest that you take plenty of fluids. Drink adequate amount of water and eat well. Get enough ventilation also. The sores may not manifest however, HSV type 1 infection may not be readily excluded here. Infectious mononucleosis should also be ruled out here.
