eczema on areolas while breastfeeding.

My baby is 6 months old and is exclusively breastfed. In the past month I have noticed that my left nipple was irritated. At first just very itchy, lactation consultant ruled out yeast. It has since progressed into extremely painful, especially when he latches on. There is a small crack at the base of the nipple, but on my areola is a red bumpy rash. It *****. Horribly. I have never experienced any type of eczema until now. It does run in my family, my mom has asthma and my baby has eczema. It is now to the point that I cringe when I have to feed him on that side. Can somebody tell me what to do to help ease the pain and/or make this go away. Also if anyone on here could share their experience with this, that would be nice. Thanks so much.

This is a typical Atopic eczema causing nipple dermatitis.Position the baby properly because not perfect latch can cause bruising. To do this stabilize the infants face and keep semi-upright position to prevent gumming.Moisturize with lanolin and perhaps mild corticosteroids.
Guess this should be fine and bear with me for the delayed reply since it concers a baby and the mother, both precious.
Best wishes.

also, I refuse to quit nursing before he is 1 year old. I will nurse through the pain if necessary.
