folliculitis

about a month and a half ago, I noticed a strange rash in my pubic hair region.  It started as a little bump that got red and swollen, the eventually started to puss and then would go away.  This kept continuing to happen but only in my pubic hair area not on my actual genitals.  I immediately thought it was herpes and went to the doctor.  She said it was just folliculis and I had to let it heal on its own.  She prescribed me antibiotics for ten days which did not help very much.  I have been putting neosporin on it daily and just when it seems to be going away more re appear.  Since this has happened I do not shave down there at all (the doctor said this is probably how I got it).
This is starting to take a toll on me because I cannot have a normal sex life with this rash going on.  What should I do to make it go away?  Doctors seem to have no sollution, what do you think that I should do?  Could this be something else besides folliculitis it only seems to be getting worse.  Please help!

Well any updates??????  The Dermintologist prescrib me
a cream called clindamycin and antibiotics caled  Minocycline...  I think this is a bunch of junk!! Yes the Kephlex in the begining help, but it was obvious the infection was present.. now I just have tight lumps under the skin, plus I have a had a constant case of what appears to be JOCK itchs between my "balls" and legs.. I am tired of taking Antibiotics so unless the infection appears to be inflamed or pusing I donot see the reason to take them!!! I have had this jock itch before never paid that much attention to it...  I have to agree that eating right does help..  just wondering if anyone has had any better luck from this stuff called FOLLICULTIS!!  I have not had the little tiny red bumps like I did for the first month .. hmmm ho know maybe it is evolving into something else!! Great!!!:)

After reading all the correspondence, I now know the medical term for what I have. I have been living with the oversized "pimples" since I was attacked 5 years ago in college.

I recently asked my gyn becaue I was tired of feeling ashamed of showing my legs, and afraid to wear swim suits in fear of people seeing them.  She told me very nonchalantly that they were just hairs trying to come through. She told me to put warm cloths or heating pads on them to help the hair come through.  I didn't have time to do this for the number that I get. So I started thinking back to a time that where there was a lapse in them appearing.

It was after I had been having them for about 2 years.  I had started an excercise program to lose weight.  So of course in turn I was eating healthier. I found that in that time, I never, I repear NEVER had a pimple appear.  I TRULY BELIEVE that if you chenge your diet and put food and beverages inside you that your body doesn't have a hard passing your sores will go away. I am no medical doctor, I just know what happened to me and what helped me.

Whatever goes in your body must come out.  When you sweat, your releasing toxins from inside of you.  If your pores are clogged with impurities, do you think that your hair is going to have an easy time breaking through the filth that is in your system.it can't, your body can't breath and the same thing happens to your hair.  It can't get out, so it pulls everything that is in the way up with it.

This is what I KNOW to have cured me.  As soon as I stopped eating healthy, about a month later they came back.

It was hard but I am in the process of doing it again.  i felt TOO good when they were gone and removing things from my eating habits is worth the sanity I received.

I cut out things like:
* eating fried foods everyday
* eating sweets everyday
* pork
* beef
* sodas

I started eating things that were easier and friendlier to my body like:
* fruits
* vegetables
* juices
* baked foods

And my thighs rub together, so for me this change was ultimate. Just imagine those pimples on thighs that rub constantly, very painful.

I hope I helped, because I know I solved my problem.

Well!! I have been on kephex for almost 15 days now!!!!  I felt it help kill whatever bacteria may heave infected the hair follical.. Like i said in my original post it started 2 days after having protected sex(HER ON TOP FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES)..  It was 8-10 little red bumps (kinda like pimples with little bit of puss- they were not like herpes BLISTERS by any means what I mean by a herpes blister has a bunch of pustials on the red bump) some do not even come to a head.. these lasted  for about 5 weeks.. then they started to clear up (during the first 5 weeks they would dry up & come again pretty much in the same spot) about 3 inch below my bellybutton in my pubic hair!!  During the 6 week they cleared up but 3 of the little bumps turn into BOILS with some minor swelling.. The DERM prescrib kephex which I have been on for close to 14 days now!! I felt things where going good.. THE boils where going away everything was great, then I just had sex on 09/19/02 with her on top and BAM I am starting to see little RED patches in the same spot that look like they may turn into pimples again... For some reason i feel the kephex is stopping them from turing into pimples/bumps whatever.. reason I say this is that i notice a few new red patches would start but then die out while I was on the kephlex who knows!!  I am seeing the DERM next week... Geez I have a feeling i may go through this for a long time..  I have not trimmed my pubic hair anymore since the doctor feels this could have started it!
Take care

I have had these same problems ongoing for almost 6 years now.I have experienced everything from the deep boils to just red bumps. I have no Idea how to get rid of them or how to make the symptoms lesson. I am completely lost. It interferes with my entire personal life. So embarrassing. No doctor has ever written me a perscription or anything, My gynocologist acted like he didnt see anything until I asked him and he said "Oh thats normal." I hope you both have better luck than me if you find anything that works please post.

Hi,
Thanks for writing me back, it sounds like you and I have the same exact problem.  I just wanted to tell you that when my doctor prescribed me antibiotics, she gave me keflex and it seemed to be working, but when I finished the prescription, it came right back.  Hopefully it works out better for you.  One thing that I have noticed that helps, is not touching or squeezing them because it re-infects them. Anyway, good luck!

Hello Nicola,
My symptoms sounded just like yours for the first 5-6 weeks!!    About 8-10 little pimples that really did not hurt, itch, and would kinda puss if squeezed some would develop a little head or maybe a litte dry white scab (they would hurt if squeezed, but not to the touch)  Week after week it seemed since the the first week I had them they would flare up (red) on a monday and start to fade on a friday, but every sunday/monday they would flare up again(when I say flare I mean turn red not allot of swelling just turn red like a pimple)  Most of them were small, but a few were a litte larger.. During the 7th week (just last week)I saw a dermintologist, but was worried b/c eveything seems to look better except I noticed 3 of the little red pimples seem to get swollen under then skin almost like they were turing into medium size boils!! At that time if I pulled the skin tight agains the boils "puss" would come out fo the hair follical.. Well the doctor gave me "keflex" and said it was follicitis..  I tried to explain to him "Hey I had 8-10 little red pimples for 6 weeks now 3 of the bumps are turing into deep boils"  He really had nothing else to say except it is not herpes and it is follicitis..  So now I have been on the Keflex for 6 days and the red pimples are gone (they where pretty much healed anyway) and the boils are hard with NO imflammation, but you can tell their is something still in the HAIR FOLLICAL!! Overall I am kinda happy atleast the red bumps are gone, but something is still there! TO answer you question about the orignal 8-10 little red pimples if they puss and went away!  Yes they would kinda puss i guess & you could say they would dry up then start all over again for the last  6 weeks.. Now like i said I have 3 nice size BOILS deep under the skin (4 inches below my bellybutton in myu front pubic hair area).. to the touch it feels like you can squeez them, but when you squeez them the "STUFF" feels preety deep so nothing comes out! Just hurts!!
Good luck!!! Like I said I had no itch, pain, or anything during the time I have had this mess..

Well thanks for the good info!! I will see my doctor on friday for a follow up! I will tell him about what happen to you and the Keflex.....
I hope it does not come back after I stopped the keflex...  I think i may be okay because before I started the keflex they were going away and the boils had just started (lucky me)... So I may be stuck with these BOILS for a while I guess!! they have ZERO inflammation any more just hard little lumps under the skin! If you ask me ( i am far from a doctor) I feel this infection is just dorment and will blow up again at a later time..  I have experience because when I was in HS I caught impetigo which I believe later started a facial cyst problem on my face.. I would get facial cyst (4) times a year from age 15 to 20...  Eveytime they would go away their would be a lump present on my forehead/or cheek.. not very big..  but almost like it was just waiting .. and everytime another cyst would come out either on my cheek or forhead the lump was not there anymore, but as soon as the infection was gone the little lump would be present.. Weird ehhh!!  good luck..

hi jim beam I have similar symptoms but I don't think they are boils, I just think that they are deep infections.  Do yours feel really deep and hard and painfull at first, then they puss and then go away?

Hello Nicola...  I had the exact same thing for almost 7 weeks!!
Dermintologist said it is Folliculitis( he gave me 12 days of Keflex i am on my 5 day now)..Then just when the little red pimples where going away 3 of them seemed to become "boils" right in the same genital area!!  During the first 3 days the skin was inflammed.. they are like SMALL DEEP boils under my pubic hair(3 inches below my bellybutton).. TO deep to sqeeze and about DBL the size of a normal pimple...  So first it was 8-10 little pimples for 7 weeks and now it is 3 DEEP boils!!. It The surface is actually hard when u rub your finger over it!!?!Just thought I would share my experience with you..
Good luck.

Folliculitis is not contagious.  It goes away very slowly.  There is no need for you to put your sex life on hold while you wait.  simply tell partners the truth, namely that these are healing pimples that mean nothing.

Of course, it would be nice if there was a cream or pill that would make them go right away, but there isn't.  Whatever you do, don't rub or scratch them out of frustration or impatience, because that just makes them hang around longer.

Patience is difficult, but in your case necessary.
