fungus toe joe !

Im new to this section - I came down with a bad case of athlets foot about 8months ago on - one single toe !!
it got so bad it started bleeding - I treated it with o.t.c anti fungus creams and sprays - however it never cleared up
I have seen 3 diffrent Doctors about this toe !  got all sorts of anti fungi sprays and creams and soaking stuff.. it got a bit better and dryed out , but its there still - today I went the Doctor no#3  and she gave me a strong anti biotic drug
( I take b.p meds ) and checked with the pharm dept - and the anti biotic drug interacts ! and can cause liver damage!
I now had 2 doctors ,demand I take this drug - however I cant being the interactions , and as well the risk of liver damage from it.. as even the woman at the pharm dept told me , she has alot of complaints about this drug ! she said its very hard on the liver !   so why risk it  ?

I think after seeing 3 diffrent doctors for one stinking toe problem.. one should have the brains to look up a med that
can help me and not cause interactions or adverse side effects !   None have done this !   Instead they pass the buck
to your primary Doctor -  I dont have a Primary Doctor - as I have a open access plan .  and my Last Doctor for treating my b.p .. isnt all that smart !! as he changed my medications - and insisted I take a new drug .. well
it didnt work for me.. and I crawling the walls for 3 days !!    needless to say im back on the old stuff..  for b.p
plus my doctor never called me back , after I call him to report the problems I had.. due to him !!

I think due all these problems .. im going to go outside of los angeles  and find another Doctor !  with brains !!
and training --  my b.p is high .. my fricken toe isnt healed - and now for the 3rd time , a doctor shows me the door !
threw her hands up in the air !!    this is wrong !!

oh well..     helpless

I had a problem with both big toes and thought it was athletes foot. The first thing the dr said was it is normally on all the toes not just one. They never figured out mine but I did later. Try soaking that toe in hydrogen peroxide. It should kill the germs. Try salty water. Use the water as hot as you can get it. Spray you shoe with an antibacterial spray so you won't give the germs back to yourself. The drug you were talking about that is so bad for your liver, I had tried to get my dr to give it to me. At that time I didn't know about the liver damage it could cause, but my dr wouldn't do it. Now I know why. Don't wear shoes unless you have to. Get some flip flops or go barefoot so that toe can get air. Moisture is one of the big things that causes athletes feet. Hope you get help soon.

Wow, I know how frusturating it is for you.  I have had jock itch for nearly 4 months, and it has disrupted my entire life.  It was not diagnosed until 4 weeks ago, so I didn't begin treatment until then.  The first 2 weeks of treatment with OTC cream/powder was not effective at all...because I was itching and irritating the area.  If you are itching or rubbing the infected area, it is spreading the fungus and rubbing it into the layer already infected, which just makes it worse. Once I forced myself to keep my hands off the forbidden area, it got better very quickly.  Now after 2 weeks of no itching...it's 75% gone, and the need to itch was gone after a couple days.  I've read many times that symptoms and treatment are similiar for Atheletes Foot, in fact one usually leads to the other, because of cross-contamination...so keep your hands out of your pants! Good Luck
