hello well about a year ago i started noticing next to the left side of  my lip a white patch of skin. it developed to be about an inch and a half so far. now its completely white and white hair grows on and around it but its barely visible. i consulted a skin specialist and she recomended 2 ointments to be applied morning and night (clobetasol propionate cream usp 0.05% and protopic tacrolimus ointment 0.1%).. is this vitiligo? and is this a good treatment? thank u i'd appreaciate ur response.

well i havent had any spreading of the patches nor any enlarging of the only one i have however it seems to constantly change from being completely white to being a little redish or of darker color . i was suggested that if there arent any other patches it was not vitiligo..i lack of vitamins and i am a very stressful person i also dont sleep very well until lately, could those habits be the reason for this patch? or do they not have to do with this? i dont have any family members or history with vitiligo and since i stopped being exposed to the sun the patch has just turned completely white but does not seem to grow or shrink i appreciate your response

Hello,
From the symptoms,it sounds like vitiligo. It is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body. Diagnosis can be confirmed by external examination, blood tests to check skin cell count  for melanocytes and biopsy of the skin patches.

Treatment options include steroids, psoralen photochemotherapy(PUVA),depigmentation and surgical therapy like skin grafting, micropigmentation or tattooing and autologous melanocyte transplants. However the choice of therapy depends on the number of white patches; their location, sizes, and how widespread they are and the option that is convenient to you.I would suggest  you to discuss these options with a dermatologist.
I hope that helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.

Vitiligo is the condition described.I generally do not use clob on the face, leads to excess hair growth in hairy areas.Tacrolimus is good.
