is folliculitis common?

Just two years ago I started having folliculitis on my lower legs. It began to grow more and more to other parts of my body. For example my face and my arms. I was so freaked out as I searched online it said it could be due to HIV. I was like what? I am a Hong Konger and my Doctor told me folliculitis is very common especially in Summer. Also I searched some Chinese website, it could be due to weakened immune system caused by living habit - staying up late. At that time I really did stay up late to play games and did not get enough sleep as usual.
I just wonder if it is so common? I think the websites are exaggerating that everything is due to a serious illness.
