itchy lumps/bumps

My boyfriend has been experiencing random clusters of lumps/bumps that look like hives or mosquito bites on his sternum, head and right side/rib area that itch intensely for about the past year. They come back in the same locations and last for about 3-7 days, then disappear for maybe a week or maybe a month. Recently, he has had a couple on his left side/rib area. We haven't been able to pinpoint an irritant and it is usually worse in the afternoon/evening. They range from 1-3 cm, colorless, sometimes just 1 or 2, sometimes 10+. We've tried special shampoos and soap, laundry detergent, antihistamines. His diet hasn't changed. He is only using an inhaler as needed for asthma, no other medications. Age-29.

Always worth taking a trip to the doctor for something like this that keeps reoccurring.  Best of luck to him- I'm sure that isn't comfortable!
