My daughter developed a problem with her lips last August. At first we thought it was a cold sore on the corner of her mouth and treated it with the one expensive over-the-counter medicine that comes in a tiny tube. It was ineffective. Then it was in both corners, and then there was a little redness above the top of her upper lip that comes and goes. Her lips continually go through a cycle of peeling; the corners' problem does not go away. She does not lick her lips. We went to a dermatologist who thought it was a yeast infection who treated it with a nystatin with steroid- it would make it go away within 2-3 days but it would just come back. Then he wouldn't prescribe anymore, just the nystatin that was ineffective. At the same time she has a couple of spots that come and go at the inside of her elbow crease and near her wristbone. He treated it with somethings that begins with fluoro. . . which makes it go away easily but still appears to be a come and go thing. The big problem is the lips. Another dermatologist still believed in the nystatin and said it takes 2-3 weeks to "tease" it out. It was not effective. Nothing seems to be permanent. Now this has been almost going on a year, and I don't know what to do. Pursue food intolerances? Very rarely she thinks she feels some itchiness (not on the mouth) on her neck or arm after eating but so rarely happens enough to really conclude it is food. She is 11 and eats everything. Please help!
