Hi.
Skin darkening associated with increase in body weight or obesity is termed acanthosis nigricans. "Acanthosis nigricans is a disorder that may begin at any age. It causes velvety, light-brown-to-black, markings usually on the neck, under the arms or in the groin. Acanthosis nigricans is most often associated with obesity."

For some researchers or physicians , they may only refer to these areas as skin pigmentations or hyperpigmented areas. I suggest that you discuss this with your physician if this applies to your daughter's case.
thank you for the response. No, there is not a strong hx of diebetes. My mother was diagnosed at 65 years.
What is the pigmentation called?
Hi.
These are hyperpigmentation caused by interplay of hormones that are responsible for obesity or fat metabolism in the body. There seems to be an association between these hormones and the factors responsible for pigmentation. I know you are highly concerned about this but a balanced diet and regular exercises for your child will help resolve this skin condition.
Ask your physician if you may be referred to a nutritionist to help plan your child's diet. It is best not to forcibly cut off particular food like carbohydrates and fat as your child is still growing and she needs this. The right diet plan and exercises will help bring her weight down.
Is there any strong history of diabetes in the family?
