rash

My son is almost two and he has been having bumps on his face and body. I thought he kept getting ant bites but the other day at the store he fell asleep and when he woke up he had a couple on his face. They then faded and went away. now he has a high fever and has them on his back and stomach.

He is actually fine. It's weird. the bumps went away again quickly and I haven't seen anymore. Fever lasted for a day and a half the only other thing was he wasn't eating but he's two that's what two year olds do. He finally ate a good meal tonight followed by a big piece of birthday cake. He actually turned two today.

thanks so much for the help/advice,

Hi,

How is your son? Are there other signs or symptoms present? If his vaccines are complete, this could be a  rash due to a viral infection.  If not, this could be rubeola or measles, which  is an acute, highly contagious viral disease which is more common in winter and spring. Symptoms generally appear in two stages: in the first stage, There may be a runny nose, cough and slight fever. The eyes may become reddened and sensitive to light, while the fever consistently rises each day. The second stage begins on the third to seventh day, and consists of a temperature of 103° to 105°. and a red, itchy rash lasting four to seven days. The rash usually begins on the face and then spreads over the entire body. Koplik spots or little white spots may also appear on the gums and inside of cheeks.

Fever may be controlled with paracetamol and tepid sponge bath. If symptoms persists, it would be best to have this evaluated further by your doctor.  Make him drink plenty of fluids to replace fluid loss. Take care and keep us posted.
