reoccuring red patch

Over the past 2 months, we have noticed a reoccuring red patch that covers half of my 5 year olds forehead, eye, and 2 spots on her right cheek.  the patches are not raised, do not itch, do not hurt, and feel the same as the unaffected skin on the other half of her forehead.

This redness is coming more frequently now, and her pediatrican prescribed a topical treatment which did nothing.  The pediatrician did not seem concerned but I am worried this may be a form of port wine stain, hemangioma (sp?), or something more serious in the underlying blood vessels.

We will be scheduling another Dr. appt, but I was curious as to what may be causing this from your experience.

Thanks for the info.  On another note, when she was born she had a "stork bite" mark over the opposite eye area and she would always get red around her eyebrows when she cried.

However, this new occurence does come mostly when she's hot, back from recess, etc,. But it was never noticeable before about 2 months ago.

Kinda sounds like a flat hemangioma, but was worried it was something more worrisome and possibly lymphatic such as clta.

A hemangioma would be visible at birth.  It's conceivable that this is a flat hemangioma that becomes more visible when your child is hot, wet, etc., but it'd hard for me to imagine that you wouldn't have noticed it before.  In any case, flat hemangiomas don't grow, bleed, or some other unpleasant things.  The redness may be mild eczema or a rash of some sort.  I agree that another doctor's visit makes sense, but I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Take care.
