scarring

Hi recently my dog bit me and i had a cut going down from just under my nose through my top lip, and i had a small op to remove some flesh from the wound on my lip and had it stitched back together. i had the stitches out a couple days ago so the scarrings stil new, but at the minute the part on my lip itself is stil quite wide and deep,i thought where they had joined it, it would have healed so the line was very thin. will this get better in time or will it aways be like that

Hiya thanks yes ive had a tetanus jab though i wasnt asked if i needed a rabies one, I was told to avoid gettin the scar too wet at the minute and not to use anything with perfumes in it so at the minute im just using a damp cloth on it, im pretty sure im past the infection stages now anyway as the wounds healed over apart from a small area that the nurse reopened when she removed the stitches, the issue i have is im still not likein the shape of the scar and the depth, an although its not obvious unless u look closely the one side of my lip appears a little bigger to the other, i have brought some bio oil which is supposed to be for scarring but i am unsure of how effective it wil be

Hi

This should improve in time. Just refrain from picking on the area. This may get infected and an infection may only disrupt or delay the healing process. Wash the area with a mild cleanser like Neutrogena or Cetaphil and avoid touching the area unnecessarily. The scar should heal in two weeks to a month's time if it is not too deep.

Have you had your antitetanus  and antirabies shots done?
