schamberg's disease

This discussion is related to Schamberg's Disease - use of alcohol and other factors.

I have been diagnosed with Schamberg's Disease (which began over a year ago, and have been taking vitamin C for the last 2 months and wearing support hose, with no improvement. My dermatologist has recommended PUVA treatments. Is there any evidence that it may improve my condition?

I have bouts of Schamberg's disease, usually after being bit by several mosquitos, but not always, it can be a bad scrape too. It starts on one leg, then the other, then spreads up my leg to the knees for some reason. I was given a steroid cream which seems to worsen the allergic reaction. The only thing that helps is cold water spray and a fan blowing on my legs, vitamin C (?), rest, and time. The itching, hot rash, and pain lasts three or four days, then the red rash remnants goes away in two weeks. Wish there was a cure or better treatment plan after all these years since it was first discovered back in the early 19 hundreds.

I was diagnosed with Schamberg's disease over 3 years ago. The lesions started on my lower legs and at it's worst spread up my body, including stomach, thighs and arms. New lesions were accompanied with burning and pain. I was prescribed steroid cream, which never worked to reduce or prevent the lesions. Eventually I turned to homeopathic remedies. I have been taking horse chestnut seed extract daily (available from most health food stores including GNC), which is recommended for circulation. The lesions stopped occurring quickly and return when I stop taking the horse chestnut, though I occasionally still get one on my legs. I hope this can help others with this disease.

Hi,

Usually steroid creams are prescribed along with Bacitracin ointment for local application.

Discuss this with your skin specialist and take a second opinion if you are still not convinced.

Let us know about how you are doing and post us about what your doctor advises.

Regards.
