shingles on labia area

Is it possible to have shingles on labia area? Could it be psoriasis, and what type of physician would be best to have an examination. Gynocologist or dermatologist?

Hi Dear

What are the signs and symptoms you are experiencing? Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is caused by varicella zoster virus (responsible for causing chicken pox also). Shingles does not occur in the genital areas.

However, a virus belonging to the same family, herpes simplex virus can cause genital herpes involving labia, which is a common and highly contagious disease transmitted from one person to the other through sexual activity. Painful ulcers/blisters can develop both outside and inside the vagina and may be associated with fever, muscle aches, and vaginal discharge. Treatment with antiviral medications like acyclovir of famciclovir shorten the duration and severity of outbreak. Painkillers are generally taken to alleviate pain.

It is in your best interest to seek medical help at the earliest.

It is categorically false that Herpes Zoster (shingles) cannot occur on the labia and I'm appalled that you would suggest that. It can 100% be shingles.
