skin reaction to plastic gloves

hello, i began working part time in a meat counter, and am required to wear plastic gloves, however in recent months my upper hand and wrist have become very red in colour which is being caused by contact with the gloves. At first my doctor thought that it was a latex allergy but i recently discovered that they are just standard gloves and do no contain any latex, my hands are becoming visibly worse on aweekly and even begin to bleed when they come in contact with the gloves and to be honest they are becoming disgusting to look at. My doctor gave me a benovate cream which is effective bu only temporarily. Does anyone know what substance in the plastic is causing this and am i doing permanent or irreversible damage to my hands by wearing these gloves every week? Would  Appreciate all possible feedback......thanks.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Contact dermatitis or allergic eczema due to plastic gloves  may be due to polyvinyl chloride (PVC). To determine the exact component that is responsible for your symptoms, a Patch test is usually done. At this point, it is recommended that you refrain from using the plastic gloves to prevent further harm. It will also help if you t alk to your supervisor or safety committee about your condition with the plastic gloves.

Take care and do keep us posted.
