Uncircumcised 35 years male here. Have had problems with light itchiness, redness on the foreskin, increased smegma production and a small fissure/tear on the frenulum (or rather exactly where the frenulum meets the penis head, about 1mm big) for a couple of months (on and off).

Been to two doctors, been prescribed topical steroid creams which didn't seem to do much. The first doctor suggested I try Clotrimazole anti fungal cream, which did seem to cure everything very quickly! Went the whole 2 week course of clotrimazole 3 times a day, then stopped since the problem was long gone. Problem came back after a few days. Tried clotrimazole 3 times daily for yet another 2-3 weeks, same result - problem went away within days but came back when I stopped.

The second doctor insisted that it was some form of allergy or eczema and not fungus, he even did a fungus lab test which came back negative! Yet, clotrimazole makes everything look normal within 2 days! To me there are too many factors indicating fungus infection, so I don't trust the lab test 100%.

About the tear/fissure/wound/cut on the frenulum: The clotrimazole seems to help a little bit in that it moisturizes everything and makes the skin more elastic. But the best result I've seen was when using Sudocream right on the wound (and clotrimazole on the rest of the penis). I truly believe Sudocream (or any cream containing zinc) will be of big help to most of you guys. I've also read about people who have had almost immediate improvement by using creams with fusidic acid (Fucidin, Foban) - can't really comment since I didn't try them (I will if it opens up again).

Anyway, I believe the key factors of treatment are:

1... DO NOT USE SOAP TO WASH THE PENIS! It will dry out the skin, even if you rinse it off. Use warm (not hot) water and lightly clean the area with your fingers, but be careful not to put unnecessary strain on the frenulum if you have tears in it. Also, let all skin folds air dry before applying creams.

2... Stop masturbation and sex for a while, at least until any tear/fissure/cut has healed. Really, you'll be glad you did once the problem is fixed. For me I've stopped sex for two weeks, masturbation one week, and my cut/tear is almost completely healed now (just a slightly red dot still visible). Before I didn't stop anything, and I'm assuming that's part of the reason this has been an on/off problem for about three months. Using the tips below I believe you will minimize your "down time". Also, if you just have redness/itchiness I guess you could try sex/masturbation while treating with clotrimazole, but using loads of lube and of course a condom to not infect your partner with any fungal infection. Make sure to re-apply the cream after showering.

3... Treat any fungus infection with anti fungus cream (such as clotrimazole).

4... Treat any wound/cut/fissure with zinc (such as Sudocream) or possibly fusidic acid cream.

5... When all problems are gone, don't just go back to doing nothing, especially if you notice that your foreskin seems dry! Use something to moisturize the skin and keep it flexible to prevent tears/fissures/cuts (which will invite fungus infections). Haven't gotten to this stage myself yet, but I'll be trying a mixture of coconut oil (moisturizing and naturally anti fungal), shea butter, olive oil and almond oil. I found a ready made mixture by a Thai company called Organique at Tesco Lotus in Bangkok, but my guess is that one can experiment with either/combination of these ingredients which all seem to be good and gentle moisturizers with some anti fungal properties.

Good luck and thanks to all posters who share their findings!

Few years ago i got some pain on my penis. I thought what happen and become wary as i am sensitive to pain. i was shocked to see a cut on the right side of my penis ! i am uncircumsized male. it looks quite deep at least from my point of view. i google and was surprised to read that other males experience such issue too. some are helpless while a few mention some remedy. a few gf chip in the discussion too. i told my doctor. he didnt examine it. but give me foban cream. i applied it and few days later i couldnt find the cut. i check the box it says : for the topical treatment of primary and secondary baterial skin infections. i would urge you to check with your doctor and not blindy buy the cream and apply as you don't know who i am. you certainly would not want to entrust your penis in my hand. thus check with your doctor about this cream. also, don't use expired cream as you never knows about the side effect. good luck. lastly, pray. it helps.

My boyfriend had about 3 little open cuts under his penis head, then I got them a few days later on the inside of my vagina. We are both scared and going to the doctor.

Guys....I had this same problem...just a little cut-like area underneath the penis head, that became more irritated with sexual activity.  It almost looked like skin had just rubbed off.  Turned out, I had chlamydia.  It's an easily cureable disease, at which I'm lucky, but you all need to stop fooling yourselves and go get yourself tested.  1 out of every 4 Americans get a sexually transmitted disease at least once.  It's not like doctors are going to make you feel like **** about it, but you definitely need to get it checked.  Especially the dude who's giving bumps to his wife, I mean, c'mon dude.  That's f'd up.  I don't care if you are gay, straight, bi, or whatever, but if you are sexually active, you should be getting tested at LEAST once a year.  Good luck to you all.
