vagival bumps in pregnncy

Hello doc,

I have 2 vaginal bumps. One of them is just below the bikini line on the left close to my pelvic bone…. Which has got a slightly swollen gland whilst the other is further below on the right.
I saw my doc yesterday who said it is a hair follicle infection and prescribed fucidin cream to apply 3times daily. As I am 16 weeks pregnant, and the bump which is of concern to me is close to my uterous,  I was a bit sceptical, as I wasn’t sure I needed the anti biotic. ( the other bump is not painful and am not worried about it)
I saw the doc in the morning, not convinced, I went to see my gynae consultant who didn’t know what it was and then refered me to a sex health clinic.
At the clinic, the doc said it was a skin reaction to my hair…which led to the blockage of hair follicle. At this point, the bump was ripe and it burst and she took a swab for it to be examined. The result should be out in 5 days, but if it is infected already, I want to start treatment.
But having read other posts I am worried it might be infected now since It burst also, the gland in my pelvic bone region was a bit sore before the burst and it still is afterwards.  She prescribed aqueous cream for me to wash with.
Do you think I should go ahead to use the fucidin cream… am not sure if it is safe in pregnancy, also if I don’t use the cream will it cause any infection to the baby?
Thanks.

Hello,
From the symptoms,it sounds like a boil. Boils are caused by infection of the hair follicle by staph aureus. . Hair follicles that are blocked by greasy creams, petroleum jelly, or similar products are more vulnerable to infection. Bacterial skin infections can be spread by shared cosmetics or washcloths, close human contact, or by contact with pus from a boil or carbuncle.

Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.Amoxicillin is safe in pregnancy and the swab sample will most likely give the result of staph infection(common in boil). So amoxicillin can be prescribed because it is the treatment of choice for staph infection. If you don't use the creamthen the baby will not be harmed but left untreated it can cause ocurrence of other boils.
I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
