8.8 meter reading for 11 yr old

my new partner has diabetes and take meds for this. the oter day my daughter wanted to try and test her bloods. We allowed her and the level came out at 8.8, this was in the morning before any food or drink. She went to school and came back and tested again. It was 8.7. We did another today and that was 7.1. Is this hig levels for a child. I dont know what it should be for a child. She as recently put a large amount of weight on to very quickly and sweats alot.

I also recommend having her thyroid checked as that can be a cause of weight gain as well.

Yes, unfortunately, 8.8 (158) is much too high for a fasting blood sugar. If she has put on a lot of weight, she might in fact have Type 2 diabetes which has become much more common in children. But only your doctor can diagnose diabetes, and tell you which type it is. I suggest you have her see her doctor as soon as possible.
