Any type 1 diabetics also have an automimmune disorder, like Rheumatoid arthritis?

My sis is type 1, for 20 years now. She is beginning stages of slight complications in her eyes. She has been having itchy skin, immense joint pain too, muscle pain, twitches in muscles, foot pain AND pain in her hands :( She is nervous b/c my aunt just passed of a RARE autoimmune disorder, but I keep telling her It is not that. (dermatomyositis). Anyone here have rheumatoid arthritis or any other disorder like connective tissue disorder, that  you got after diabetes? She had blood work done today but is nervous..

Hi,

Unfortunately it is quite common to have more than one autoimmune condition existing in the same person.  Most common are diabetes, thyroid issues, and celiac.  However, certainly other autoimmune conditions can coexist.

Wishing your sister all the best.

I'm sure that coexists with people.  Has your sister been diagnosed with RA and does she take medication for it?

She has not been diagnosed RA, but blood work said negative. Now she's awaiting any other autoimmune disorders in another blood panel. Thx for your advice and reply ...
