Hello,

the A1C of 14.3 is an average blood sugar of well over 400.  That is terribly dangerous both for you and the baby.  You could easily go into diabetic ketosis and coma at that level.

How are you doing now?  I hope your blood sugars are much lower.

Are you still pregnant?  What is your A1C now? Have you had any scans?

Hello,

how are you going?

Common birth defects with high blood sugars are damage to the heart and spinal cord.  I would think that at least the worst issues (if they exist) should be able to be seen with a high level ultrasound.

No one can know for sure if there is damage done or not.  But I'd think that if you control very well now there is still a chance that your baby is healthy.

Regardless YOU need to be healthy as well and need to work to control your diabetes well.

Hello

there is a risk of birth defects if you have very high blood sugars in early pregnancy.  If you want this baby the best thing you can do is to tightly control blood sugars.

They like to see fasting blood sugar < 95 and 2 hours after eating < 120 and never over 140 during pregnancy.

I hope that your baby is ok.  If you do end up losing this baby, please work to get your blood sugars well under control and then you can try again.
