diabetes

If a toddler, say around 18 months was diagnosed with diabetes and there was no history of it on either side of the families, what would be the cause or causes of it?

I too am the only person in my family who has diabetes.  I agree with the comment there is no exact or proven theory to why one gets diabetes.  I have found some good statistics on www.diabetes.org9the american diabetes website.  Also if you go www.jdrf.org you might find some good information about diabetes and the reasons doctors and scientists believe what are the causes.

There is no known cause for Diabetes.  Some believe it is hereditary and others believe it is caused by other means such as diet or other things.  Neither is proven and most believe it is a combination of both in some way.  I for one have no history on either side of my family either.  But I eat pretty well too so can't really say where it came from.  I believe that my pancreas just failed as do other parts of the body in different people.  I assume that was not what you wanted to hear but alas it is the case.  We don't know ...
