lisinopril to protect the kidneys?

I just returned from my first appt w/ my new Dr.  She says that I should be on lisinopril "to protect my kidneys". I have had diabetes for 35 years and never had a test come back indicating that I am "spilling protiens". My BP is 104/70
A1c is about 7.3.Very good health, no heart problems etc. Is this just a standard/ routine prescription for diabetics now...like aspirin?

I was on Lisinopril for kidneys too but it made me cough too much so my doctor switched me to Hyzaar.

Yes, this is pretty standard now.

You should ask for Doctor signs that the Lisinopril might be having an adverse reaction though.
