Breakfast

What do you eat for breakfast? It's always been a problem for me.

1. Oatmeal w/cinnamon
2. Eggs every which kind of way
3. Unsweetened corn flakes w/hemp milk
4. Whole wheat toast with sugar free jam/jelly
5. Whole wheat sourdough toast with sugar free cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, and green onions
6. Buckwheat and whole wheat flour pancakes/waffles with sugar free maple syrup
7. Homemade sugar free granola w/hemp milk

That's my week. Keep your carb count at minimum, no sugar, no white breads, no dairy. Simple.

Eggs with cheese or some sort of vege (onion, leeks, mushroom).  I need to eat very low carb for breakfast.  Coffee or tea with milk.

Sometimes a very small serve of no sugar added unsweetened museli, or a little oatmeal - but I need to add extra insulin to cover those if I do.

Am also very much an emotional eater, but fortunately the emotions are usually still sleeping at breakfast time.

No meds here fortunately. Diagnosed Aug 2010. Just diet. 60 carbs or less per meal. Would sourdough work for you? Or pumpernickel?

I'm on Metformin for appetite control. I've been able to control my diabetes for four year's with diet alone. A1C is 5.7 and has been 5.4 to 5.7 for four year's. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2004. I guess I'm just lucky to be able to control it. I eat cheerio's with a light yogurt in the morning and it seems to keep me stable until about noon.

love your Sunday breakfast.  Are you on diabetes meds? I am on insulin and metformin. I don't know what your med/no med regime is. That meal would be okay for me minus the bagel :(   I possibly could eat half of a small one, and take more insulin.........
I often eat cheerio's too with skim milk.  They just don't fill me up at all.    I also can be an emotional eater, which I fight hard to change........thanks for your info!

My breakfast is a lot simpler. A bowl of plain cheerios with skim milk six days a week. Sunday is 3 strips of bacon and two scrambled eggs with a multi-grained bagel. It's working for me.

You're welcome. Make it game and challenge yourself to find the proper foods. They're out there, you just have to find them. Talk with your grocer, let him/her know your interest in obtaining diabetic foods. When people show interest they will order them, the other way around if you remain silent.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm on the right track. The only thing I can't get is hemp milk, so I use soy or almond milk.
