Clinical trial design

In the clinical trial design about obesity with type 2 diabetes , the exclusion criteria includes patients should be excluded if they have fasting glucose levels greater than 270 mg/dl, I wonder the the clinical significance of the 270 mg/dl? In the T2DM clinical guidance, I didn't find this value.

You will have to ask the people doing the trials.

Fasting levels of greater than 270, represent extremely poor control.   Patients with this fasting level likely have multiple complications.  I suspect this is why they would exclude people having these levels.
Thanks for your help, I will search the related articles about the extremely poor control.
