Does anyone suffer from this and how do you control it without medication. I'm averaging around 5.4mmol/l with diet only however my fasting bgl is between 6.1 - 6.4. Any help and advice would be awesome

You may also experiment to see if a brisk walk in the evening helps.
Also try cutting the amount of carbs you eat at dinner.
