As oskarose suggests, buy a blood glucose meter and begin testing.  Don't diet, but rather change your lifestyle of eating.  Delete as many carbohydrates from your life as you possibly can.  Replace them with nuts and other proteins and healthy fats.  Remember...... One you've reached Type II status, you will always be a diabetic.  There is no cure.  But you can be a controlled diabetic, and with a little work and sacrifice achieve near normal blood tests.

You need to take responsibility for your health. I'm sure your doctor has given you a blood glucose meter. Use it! Watch your diet closely, especially your intake of carbohydrates. If you have been put on meds, take them. Exercise every day and lose weight by watching caloric intake. You can bring your condition under control but there is no "cure" and you are not going to "recover" from diabetes. Once you have been diagnosed, you are a diabetic for life. But you can keep the worst symptoms and the terrible complications from hitting you by taking care of your body. I have gone from an A1C of 9.8 down to a 6.8 and hope to soon be at a 6.4; at that point, I technically will no longer be "diabetic" but I am one due to that 9.8 reading. I exercise every day, 7 days a week, by walking 1-1.5 miles. I also take Zumba classes. I watch everything I eat and keep a daily journal of food intake and exercise and calories burned. It can be done without meds (I am doing it) but it is not easy and takes dedication. But hey, aren't you worth it?

sweets are a carbohydrate,  carbs raise BG, ALL carbs not just sweets raise BG. rice will raise BG,  mashed potatoes will raise your BG faster and higher than sugar.

You can begin your diabetes education by reading, understanding and practicing what is put forth at these sites:
http://www.diabetes.org/
http://diabetes.webmd.com/

Since you didn't provide us any information to work with, you can start by making lifestyle changes. Too many people rely solely on medication to make themselves normal when basic lifestyle changes are ignored. Medication alone will not do the work for you, they are there to 'help' you. Let us not forget Type 2 diabetes is associated with obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, lack of daily 30-60 exercise, and above all poor food choices. In its early stage it is possible to reverse diabetes. This does not mean you can ignore lifestyle changes by going back to the bad habits which created your diabetes, it means you must adhere to a diabetic prevention lifestyle or it will return. Good luck -
