low bs and blindness

My husband just got out of bed complaining about how he could not see, then he said there was nothing but sparkly things in his eyes. We got his sugar tested and it was 36. He layed down and had diarhea afterwards. earlier he had dinner and a small bowl of icecrean and banbna. he has been eating alot of bananas lately could this be causing this?

Easy on the bananas. Too much potassium is just as bad as too little potassium - both disrupt your heart rythmn and can lead to a severe stroke/coma. Try to balance out his diet. Mix other fruits with his bananas. And bs of 36 is dangerously low. I think apple juice contains the highest amount of sugar per serving than oj.

I hope your husband is doing better... Actually you need to keep candy in the house, something you can put in his mouth and he can chew if his blood sugar number goes low like that (starburst are great)... and orange juice will bring it back up very quickly.

The banana thing may be causing dirrhea, but tell him to check his potassium level if eating bananas is not normal for him, his body could be craving the salt especialy if he sweats a lot or works out regularly (exercises).

Good luck.

Oh my God 36 is terribly low......thats seriously low.....was he shaky and perspiring at all?  He needs to have sugar fast when that happens!  Juice with a couple spoons of sugar in it!
