Follow-up question

I previously posted a question because I was worried that my blood sugar 1 hour after a McDonald's was 144.  Well today my fasting blood glucose level was 78.  So was that spike because of the McDonald's?  IF I was diabetic wouldn't my fasting level be high too?  Thanks so much.  This site is so great and helpful:)

A rule of thumb: there is no need to start a new thread when a previous post went unanswered or you were confused about the answer given in that thread. Just reply back to the original with your questions/concerns and MedHelp will put it back to the top of the forum listings. This way everything stays under the same roof (thread) and makes it easier for us responders to understand and answer your concerns.

Hi,

your fasting sounds ok.

Yes, eating high sugar foods can cause a spike, and 144 1 hour after McDonalds is probably not excessive.

To get a better idea, you probably should be measuring on at least a few days running as one off testing is not going to give you a good overall picture.  And if you're really concerned get your doctor to do a HA1C test which gives a measure of average blood sugar levels over the past 2 - 3 months.  Depending on this you could be fine or maybe do more testing.

But from what you've posted, which is minimal, I would think that at worst you may have prediabetes, but likely  you are pretty normal and just need to watch your diet (don't eat McDonald's too often) and exercise regularly.

Hope this helps.
