Frequent urination at night

My father is 72 and has had Type II diabetes for years.  He has also had sleep apnea for years and years.

He now gets up 5 - 6 times per night to urinate.  Because of this, he will not go in for apnea evaluation.  He says that he won't be able to sleep anyways and will just have to unhook himself now if he gets a cpap - what a pain.

His sugar is under control ( most of the time), he is also on blood pressure and cholesterol meds.  He had a heart attack at 58 - but that was blood clot related (likely related to undiagnosed diabetes at the time).

His prostate has been checked and deemed "normal for his age" and he does not have the same issue during the day.

The sleep deprivation is really causing a decline in his quality of life as he now sleeps all through the day.  What could be causing the frequent urination?  Where can we start looking?

I think frequent urination can be related to diary products.Try avoiding diary products including cream in coffee and see if any improvement

There are several causes for frequent night urination in men, the most common being an enlarged prostrate and medication.

"His prostate has been checked and deemed "normal for his age"
Was this by a PSA test or a finger in the rectum exam? PSA tests have been known to be inaccurate.
