HbA1c blood test

Hi,

I am going for a HbA1c blood test and  can,t remember if it is a fasting blood test, I am not having any other tests with it like cholesterol etc ? . I  would also like to know if I should still take my diabetic meds as usual ,which are metformin and byetta? and should I skip breakfast on the morning of the test?.
Thankyou for any help or advice you can give me.

Hi there,
You're A1c test is not a fasting test, BUT usually when you go to your endo. or phys. to get labs done, especially if you have diabetes, they will most likely want to do a cholesterol test, which IS a fasting test. This test will be very good info for keeping up with your overall health. If I were you, I would just skip breakfast or lunch, whatever is closer to your app.

hi,

this is not a fasting test, and you can also take your regular meds on the morning of the test.  HOwever, you can always call the lab to double check.
