New Type 1 Diabetic at age 54

I have been a diabetic now for 6 months, after going into a Diabetic Coma and DKA (my sugar was over 700 and I quit breathing) on July 31, 2015.  Sugar was 70 in Dec 2014 and elevated in March.

My question is this:  I live alone, have no children by choice, family is out of state, and I am at a loss for what I can eat.  I just figured out that my body likes weenies and beans.  But I need some more help as to what to cook.  I have a slow cooker, toaster oven,  George Forman Grill, and microwave. Please help!

Eating lower carb is also very helpful for reducing insulin requirements and keeping blood sugars stable and on target.

Low carb foods include all meats, high fat unsweetened dairy (in moderation), non-starchy veges.

YOu will need to use your meter to work out which foods work best for you.

If you want recipes, you could look into paleo, low carb, mediterranean etc.

Then you need to know your carb/insulin ratio.  count the carbs and take the proper amount of insulin. and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.

I am a T1 and just started using this app.  I am sorry for posting on the wrong board.

I take 6 units of Levimir twice a day.  Novolog is my fast acting insulin.

You say your a T1 but you posted on the T2 board.
Witch are you?
what meds are you on?

T1s  eat what they want and take the appropriate amount of insulin for the carbs and protein they eat.

T2  Carbohydrates your body converts them to BG (blood sugar)  ALL carbs are converted to BG.  eat less carbs have less BG rise, need less meds.
