New to this community, Have Diabetes 2 & MS

Hi everyone!  I'm  new to your Diabetes 2 Community but have been involved some with the MS community.

I have Multiple Sclerosis but was diagnosed about 2 years ago with diabetes 2.  When I first learned my blood sugar was high at 364, I immediately and without hesitation went on a diet and lost about 45 lbs.  I did pretty good for a year and a half, but then I began eating sweets again.  Plus, my best friend and Mom were very ill and dying, so I did a lot of stress eating.  Needless to say, I gained most of my weight back and my blood sugar got elevated again.

Now, my PCP has me taking Metformin and I'm trying to lose weight again.  Trying to eat less carbs.  I crave sugar so badly.  Do you guys have any recipes for desserts that are diabetic friendly?  I've been eating fruit and I know that they say be careful of the sugars in grapes and bananas, but I really like having something that feels like dessert.  Anyway, any help is much appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

Hello,
welcome here.
Reducing carbs is actually a help to controlling weight and blood sugars.
Fruits to eat are non-tropical ones, as the tropical ones tend to be sweeter.  Berries are often fine. Apples. Some melons.  The trick is to "eat to your meter".  Try a food and test after 1 1/2 - 2 hours to see the effect on your blood sugar.

Cream (unsweetened) can be used in deserts and with fruits (in place of ice-cream), as fat doesn't have impact on blood sugars the ways carbs do, and it is also satisfying.

Portion control is also important.

If you are into cooking and can get things like almond flour, these can be used to make great low carb deserts.  Stevia is a nice sugar alternative (would skip the 'artificial' sweeteners).

Alternatives for desert can be a small amount of dark chocolate, and nuts, dried coconut....
