The good news with type 2 diabetes is that people DO often have some control.  They can control things like their weight, fitness level and diet which can help.  If you have not yet been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, do something now to prevent it.  good luck

Hi,

there is no better or worse diabetes.  There is type 1 diabetes, which is autoimmune, and people with this need to inject insulin, along managing their diet.
There is type 2 diabetes, which happens when the body can't use the insulin it produces (insulin resistance), commonly considered to be lifestyle related, but which has very strong genetic links.  For this type of diabetes first line treatment is diet (low carb diet is often a great help), weight normalization and exercise.  Oral medications are typically used, though sometimes injected insulin is used.

There are also rarer types of diabetes which are grouped under the term 'monogenetic' diabetes.  Some of these require insulin, some can use oral medications, and some can manage with just diet.

For all types of diabetes the most critical aspect to avoid complications is keeping blood sugars as close to normal as possible, and reducing insulin resistance so that insulin levels in the body can also be normalised.

Hope this helps.
