How long to see a change?

I found out I had prediabetes about 2 months ago. I was overweight and fairly sedentary. I have lost 8% of my body weight,  I exercise without fail every day (bike riding or brisk walking usually).  I count my carbs and rarely go over 30 a meal, eat "right"--lots of veggies, whole grains when I use grains, always under my calorie goal.  I track my food on a tracking site so I'm not missing anything or guessing.  I'm way less stressed than I was a month ago.

My fasting blood sugar readings are drifting upward.   They range between 98 and 119, but the last couple of weeks have been to the higher end of that.   When should I start to see the results of my efforts?  I was expecting to see a drift downward, not upward.

There is a lot of medication out there you can take if you have been suffering from diabetes issues, but there's also a lot you can do on your own to battle against the illness. Modifying your way of life is the best way you can management your suffering from diabetes issues, and this content will hint you in on some ways that you can handle the condition.

To go trick-or-treating, or not to go? That is a very challenging query for the mother or father of a Diabetic kid. The truth is that your kid is never going to eat all that sweets or else they'll slip up into a coma. Instead, why not have a celebration at your house for all the children in your neighborhood?

Feel free to ask your physician any query about Diabetes you might have, from how it impacts your bowels to if it can cause impotence (yes, it can!) No query should be too uncomfortable for you to aks if discovering the response from your physician will help!

Don't use liquor swabs on your epidermis before you give yourself an hypodermic injection of blood insulin. They will dry out your epidermis and cause you more problems than you want, trust me, and of course it will make you even less satisfied about having to take your therapy. Provided that you wash your epidermis with water and good cleanser, you should be excellent.

Test your blood sugar stages before bed if you are Diabetic. It's important to eat something if your sugar is low to make sure you'll be okay over the lengthy evening until the morning hours.

If you're Diabetic, don't overindulge simply because your sugar is low. Only one package of sweet sweets or a sugar tab is a much more secure and a better technique of providing your sugar level with the correct surge it needs to go back to normal. If you overindulge in sweets, you're likely to raise your sugar instead of getting it regular again.

Thank you for responding, Sally.  I do check my 2 hour postprandial sugar, and it's generally between 106 and 135.  It averages about 16 points higher than my pre-meal test.  (I did have one which was inexplicably 80 points higher, despite the meal being typical).  They have not tested my c-peptide or antibodies yet.   I'll talk to them about that at my next appointment.

Thanks for the encouragement on my lifestyle changes.  Still working at it!

Hello,

congratulations on your great efforts at improving your health.  Keep up the good work.

Have you checked your after eating blood sugars (say 2 hours after starting to eat).  What are they?

Bad news is that sometimes diabetes is progressive, even with the best lifestyle efforts (please continue your work), and you may need medications to get this under control.

Has your dr tested your c-peptide to see what your insulin levels are?  Have you had antibody testing.

There is 1 type of diabetes which is adult onset type 1.  This type nearly always progresses.

Type 2 diabetes (a disease of insulin resistance) typically does respond at least partially to weight loss, low carb, exercise.

I think it is time to go back to your dr to get further evaluation. However, do not give up on the lifestyle measures, whatever the outcome, as these are going a good way to making you healthier, regardless of what your diabetes is doing.
