I have hashimoto underactive. My new endocrinologist prescribed metformin because my father who also has  also has diabetes and my dr thinks I may develop pre-diabetes myself..I have been taking it for 2.5.months now and all it did was to give me constipation. My bs levels are nearly the same. Anyone else on it to advise me?. I am normal weight perfect chol/trigly.levels and fasting bsugar of 91

Hi

A fasting blood sugar of 91 is within normal range.   Have you had a Hba1c test done?  This test gives you an average 3 month blood sugar result and would be a better test to watch blood sugar with.   A truly normal hba1c is 5.0 or less.  If your test came back at this number perhaps you have no need to be concerned.

I assume you are treating your hashimoto with thyroid meds, appropriately.

Have you checked your HbA1c level?

Yes almost the same with or without Glucophage
What is your hba1c level?
mine is 5.4. anything below 6 is great!
Mine is 5.2.  I eat low carb diet (following the teachings of Dr. Richard Bernstein), exercise, and I use insulin.  I try to share the information that with the right knowledge and tools diabetes can be very manageable and need not lead to complications.
