Hello,
diabetes is a problem with metabolism of carbohydrates. Therefore the foods that you need to restrict are carbohydrates.
The carbs which should be restricted are sugars, sweetened foods, foods made from grains (bread, pasta, noodles, rice, corn), sweet fruits, starchy carbs such potato.
Vegetables are healthy and should be eaten abundantly, aside from the starchy ones. Salad vegetables also ok.
Protein has minimal effect on blood sugar, and good quality proteins should be eaten. Fats don't impact blood sugar. Healthy fats should be eaten to make up energy requirements. These will include unprocessed oils (olive, coconut, nut oils, avocado) and animal fats; butter, cream, lard, fish oils. Avoid transfats, manmade fats such as margarine and heavily processed oils such as vegetable oils.
Most of your food should be unprocessed or minimally processed. Avoid foods with many ingredients, particularly with additives and chemicals.
Hope this helps.
Have you been diagnosed?
what are your BG numbers like fasting? 1 hour after eating?
what do you eat?
Activity is VERY important.
My grandmother knew that bread made you fat... then in the 70s the FDA decided that fat was bad and carbs were good... Now we have a obesity epidemic.
