You need to check your blood sugar 2 hours after eating.  If your numbers are higher than 140, you may be considered prediabetic.

Diet (low carb), exercise, weight management will all help normalise / improve your sugars.

Totally normal and non-diabetic blood sugars HBa1c should be < 5.0.

Hello,

104 2 hours after eating is an ok result.  What did you eat?  Is that what you always eat?  Your 2 hour post eating may vary depending on what you ate.

You should also test 2 hours after breakfast.

It may be that you can control blood sugars by eating low carb foods.

There can also be some testing error (from the strips), so you should test over a few meals.

For the most definitive diagnosis, more than one value is used.  A person can be diagnosed by using fasting plasma glucose level, the HGB A1C, and an oral glucose tolerance test.

The guidelines for a diagnosis of pre-diabetes are the following:

AIC: 5.7-6.4
Fasting Glucose: 100-125
Oral GTT: 140-199

Therefore, if you compare your numbers to the diagnostic guidelines, a diagnosis would be iffy.  It's not clear enough, IMO to say either way.  I would recommend asking your doc to repeat all THREE of the above lab studies to compare the numbers again.

Good luck, let us know the outcome!

I am confused. My A1c is 5.9 and blood glucose is 82. This is all from fasting. Is this pre diabetic or not?
