that what i say, maybe your meter faulty that 100 at two hours could be 120 meter can be 20% innacurate
Hi,
Spaghetti meal may not be a good option as it may have lots of fat in it, which affects absorption and thus slows the impact on blood sugar.
You need to eat a low fat meal, with about 60g of carb and test every 15 minutes to see what happens with your blood sugar.
Google self testing "glucose tolerance test alternatives".
Jelly beans are one option. Or plain white bread, or plain white rice.
It was 69 that time I spoke of. Not too rare for me when being strict on diet and working out. And that's even when eating wheat bread, which I have now eliminated for that LCHF diet.
Most of the time I am at 80 in the morning. That other time that I had McDonald's, I had it at 95. But being in the 90s has only ever happened like twice, and both after eating crap right before bed.
NEVER has it been over 100 at morning fasting. Even when I brush my teeth before testing, which I hear can mess with the readings.
Usually I'm in my early 80s.
60s and 70s is the norm when I'm being strict on diet and exercise.
Also, my readings have never been over 130 2 hours after eating. Actually, only once have they ever been over 100 two hours after eating. 99% of the time they're under 100 2 hrs after eating.
Now, I understand that the blood glucose is the last "to go," and yet I dont. When is my sugar elevated enough to cause A1C to be high but not show up on my blood glucose meter?
I don't want to eat carbs but if I have to, I'll eat a huge spaghetti meal and then test every hour after that. I'll post results for you guys to see and help me assess. Will help as my approaching doctors appointment was cancelled due to insurance issues which I must resolve.
i suggest check another glucose meter. a1c 6.0 and fasting 80 don't add up. maybe your meter give you low reading especially since you say you get 60. 60 kind of rare for non diabetic too.
Wow! What a difference a bit of information can make and a change in diet. You are doing great by the sounds of it!
Congratulations on making the change and feeling so much better.
Coffee is fine without sugar.
Fasting in the high 60s and low 70s is totally normal for a healthy non-diabetic person. I think you could safely say that your change in eating and lifestyle have reversed your condition. YOur Hba1c will be so much better when you measure again in 3 months.
There is something called bootstrap coffee which is brewed coffee with extra virgin coconut oil and a teaspoon of butter. Honestly, I haven't tried it. I do eat higher fat low carb, but I still have my coffee with a dash of full cream milk or cream.
No, my doctor has decided not to put me on medication. But they want me to diet and exercise. She seems very optimistic that if I do make lifestyle changes that all will be well.
@diabetes86
So, I've tried your Low Carb High Fat diet and...
Holy cow!!! I am shedding the weight! My girl is really impressed.
Sugar and breads(just about everything in the bottom portion of the food pyramid) are out of my life. And I feel GREAT! Didn't even take much getting use to.
I'm ordering sandwiches like before for lunch but lettuce wrapped. And you know how when you eat a huge sandwich with bread you're like, "Ugh." You're full and satisfied but you feel like a python, you just want to lay under a tree and nap. Well now, with my lettuce wrapped sandwiches, I feel full but like energized. Like I can run a marathon. I had absolutely no idea the effect bread had on me.
I got rid of coffee for about 3 days but returned to it. But no sugar added. Just coffee and milk.
I've incorporated green tea also.
OH! And before my fasting glucose was in the early 80s. Now it's in the late 60s and early 70s!!!! And it's only been like a week! AND I've yet to take my work out to new levels like back when I boxed competitively!
Thank you guys so much! I'm in shock still at how fast Ive seen results from this diet.
Hi,
at 30 now is the time to take care of yourself. YOu will be on the way to overt diabetes if you don't. If you don't take care of yourself you will not work effectively... so this is also detrimental to health.
30 minutes of focused exercise a day can be enough (look into HIIT or Peak 8 training, and combine it with weight training, sit ups, push ups, planks, jump rope etc.) if you can do it every day or nearly every day. But this needs to be combined with a completely new way of eating. You need to dramatically cut the carbs. With an A1c of 6 your average blood sugar is about 135. This is high. Your average should be < 100.
Suggest you test about 90 - 120 minutes after eating. This will show you the effect of your food on your blood sugar. Use this result to adjust what and how much you eat. Target is < 120 ideally as your peak blood sugar but definitely < 140.
Are you on any meds for diabetes?
Eggs and veges don't take long to cook.
High Fat Low Carb HFLC google it
AND
exercise!!
Thank you!
I hope I will return to normal.
My eating habits and lack of exercise have been an issue. I use to be a competive boxer and was in tip top shape. So when I was done being competitive and didn't have to make weight, I went nuts eating all I couldn't before. Plus I got married, not that that's an excuse.
Any tips on losing weight fast? I'm about 20lbs over my "ideal" weight.
Your BG is high the way you live now to lower it you need to do more exercise than you currently do AND OR eat fewer carbohydrates of the Fast kind.
Fast carbs are most any carb that is white... white bread, white potato, white sugar (all sugars for the most part) limited pasta.
Do those things and your BG should return to normal. if you stop doing them your BG will once again rise to un healthy levels.
I am not an MD just w well controlled diabetic (most of the time).
