Foods to prevent diabetes ?

Can any one list some foods that will help keep diabetes away ? I have been told I am pre  diabetic and my numbers seems to keep climbing.  I do not think the food I eat now is that bad and I don't eat much at all really and usually only 2 times a day. I will eat anything but fish. Please if you would be so kind as to list some foods to and not to eat would be most appreciated.
Thanks

I don't make it a habit, but on the intermittent fasting diet, you can "slip up" and it doesn't affect your blood sugar levels.  (Eat some cake, not the whole cake.)

Diet is key and you have to work and find what works for you.

Our ancestors as hunter gatherers burned tons more calories than the typical sedentary person today, so our eating habits need to fit our present lifestyles.

Keeping the weight down is extremely helpful in avoiding diabetes 2. Thanks to bigger breakfasts as part of three meals a day,  I've succeeded at remaining at a consistently low BMI for years.  I wish the previous two posters good luck with their weight tracking and whatever approach they favour.

I'm with Super_sally on this one.  Check ino intermittent fasting.  There are a couple of different programs and theories out there.  The program works for me...  It's more or less based on our ancestors dietary consumption when we were all "hunter gatherers".  We ate when there was food and we browsed when there wasn't.

Do some research on this and what gymdandee said about cinnamon seems to de dead on according to my endo.

Actually intermittent fasting (skipping breakfast or dinner) can work very well for persons with diabetes and help them control their blood sugar.

The key is that the meals you do eat should be highly nutritious with quality protein source, low carb, lots of non-starchy veges, and adequate naturally occurring, unprocessed fats.

Most people eat far more than they need.

Two meals a day isn't sounding healthy.  Are you skipping the most important meal of the day, breakfast?

Keeping the body weight down can be helpful, in addition to avoiding low fiber carbs.

Chromium. A trace element that plays a role in blood sugar regulation, chromium works with insulin to help transport glucose into cells. Take up to 1,000 micrograms of "GTF" chromium daily.
Alpha-lipoic acid. This antioxidant can enhance glucose uptake, inhibit glycation (a sugar-protein link that can damage small blood vessels), and help promote and maintain eye health. Start with 100 mg a day.
Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant which may help maintain a healthy heart. Take 60-100 mg in a soft gel form with your largest meal.

Exercise improves the action of insulin, moving glucose out of the bloodstream and into tissues where it can be used for energy.
Maintain a healthy weight. If you are overweight, the more pounds you lose, the lower your chances of developing diabetes.

Several small studies have linked cinnamon to better blood sugar levels. Some of this work shows it may curb blood sugar by lowering insulin resistance.
In one study, volunteers ate from 1 to 6 grams of cinnamon for 40 days. (One gram of ground cinnamon is about half a teaspoon.) The researchers found that cinnamon cut cholesterol by about 18% and blood sugar levels by 24%. If you do try the cinnamon I suggest the brand Gia cinnamon Bark
It's a capsule any health food store should have it!
